College Intern Program

About the BRAVE Project Intern Program

The BRAVE Project is a mission-driven organization dedicated to developing future leaders through education, mentorship, and community engagement. Our work focuses on creating pathways for students to gain real-world experience while making a meaningful impact within the communities we serve.

The College Intern Program is a core initiative of BRAVE, designed to align academic learning with hands-on nonprofit service, leadership development, and governance exposure.

College Intern Program Overview

The BRAVE College Intern Program provides sophomore through senior undergraduates and graduate students with structured opportunities to support nonprofit operations, community engagement, and board governance. Interns work alongside BRAVE leadership, staff, and board members to gain professional experience while contributing to mission-driven outcomes.

Program Objectives

  • Provide students with hands-on nonprofit and leadership experience
  • Support BRAVE’s operational, programmatic, and governance needs
  • Strengthen community outreach and engagement efforts
  • Develop a pipeline of future nonprofit and board leaders

Professional Development & Mentorship

Interns receive exposure to real-world nonprofit environments that foster both professional and personal growth.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Project management and organizational support
  • Written and verbal communication
  • Leadership development and accountability
  • Exposure to nonprofit governance and decision-making

Each intern is paired with a board member who provides guidance, feedback, and career development support throughout the internship period.

Community Connection & Impact

The BRAVE College Intern Program is deeply rooted in community engagement. Interns play a vital role in supporting initiatives that directly impact local families, youth, and underserved populations.

Community-Focused Responsibilities

  • Assisting with community outreach initiatives and partnerships
  • Supporting events, workshops, and service activities
  • Conducting research on community needs and resources
  • Assisting with data collection and program reporting

Supporting the Board of Directors

A unique component of the BRAVE College Intern Program is direct exposure to nonprofit governance and board operations. Interns assist board members and leadership with essential functions that support effective oversight and strategic planning.

Board Support Activities

  • Preparing meeting materials and agendas
  • Documenting meeting notes and action items
  • Assisting with reports, presentations, and correspondence
  • Conducting research to support strategic initiatives and grant opportunities

This experience helps interns understand the role of governance, accountability, and ethical leadership within nonprofit organizations.

Leadership Pipeline & Career Readiness

The BRAVE College Intern Program serves as a leadership pipeline, preparing students for future roles in nonprofit management, community leadership, and board service.

Interns leave the program with:
