September 2026: A Season to Reset, Rebalance & Roar Forward

A Month of Transition, Balance, Preparation & New Beginnings

September has a way of reminding us that change can be a powerful opportunity.

The days begin to shift. Summer transitions into fall. Students return to classrooms, families settle into new routines, and communities prepare for another season of learning, growth, and possibility.

For many young people, September represents a fresh start.

It is a time to set goals, establish routines, discover new interests, reconnect with teachers and mentors, and begin imagining what the school year can become.

At The B.R.A.V.E. Project®, we believe every new beginning should be met with preparation, support, encouragement, and opportunity.

Our work is centered on empowering youth—particularly youth in underserved communities and Title I schools—through Health & Wellness, Reading & Educational Support, STEM, and Financial Literacy.

September gives us the perfect opportunity to ask:

Are our young people prepared not only to return to school, but to thrive?

TRANSITION: Helping Youth Navigate Change
Transition is a natural part of growing up.
A new grade.
A new teacher.
A new school.
New expectations.
New friendships.
New challenges.

For some students, these changes can bring excitement. For others, they can create uncertainty or anxiety.

The B.R.A.V.E. Project® believes that young people should never have to navigate important transitions alone.

Through mentorship, educational support, health and wellness resources, and community engagement, we work to help youth develop the confidence and resilience they need to move forward.

Being BRAVE means understanding that change does not have to be something we fear—it can be something that prepares us for who we are becoming.

BALANCE: Supporting the Whole Child

September also reminds us of balance.

As students return to school, academic achievement is important—but so is the health and well-being of the whole child.

A successful student needs more than books and assignments.

Young people need opportunities to learn about:

  • Physical health and healthy habits
  • Mental and emotional wellness
  • Healthy relationships and safe environments
  • Reading and communication
  • Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics
  • Money management and financial decision-making
  • Goal-setting and career preparation

The B.R.A.V.E. Project® Whole Child Development Model recognizes that young people need support throughout their developmental journey—from preschool through college and career. Our approach recognizes that basic needs, education, health, and financial literacy are interconnected parts of long-term success.

When we support the whole child, we help prepare the whole future.

READING: Every New Beginning Starts With Learning
September and the return to school naturally place a spotlight on education and literacy.
Reading opens doors.

It strengthens vocabulary, builds confidence, develops critical-thinking skills, and gives young people the ability to explore worlds beyond their immediate surroundings.

The B.R.A.V.E. Project® continues to promote literacy through the BRAVE Books Literacy Program, including its growing emphasis on STEM-focused books.

Our CY2026 goal includes distributing at least 500+ STEM-focused books through literacy events, helping underserved youth connect reading with science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

A book can be more than something a student reads.

A book can be a doorway to curiosity.
A book can introduce a career.
A book can inspire a dream.
A book can help a young person see what is possible.

STEM: Preparing Young Minds for Tomorrow
September is also about preparation—and STEM education is preparation for the future.

Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics are not simply school subjects. They are tools young people can use to understand problems, ask questions, create solutions, and explore careers.

At The B.R.A.V.E. Project®, we want students to see themselves as scientists, engineers, innovators, technology leaders, problem-solvers, and creators.

That is why expanding STEM-focused literacy is an important part of our CY2026 strategic goals.

We don’t simply want young people to read about STEM. We want them to become curious about it.

When a student asks, “How does that work?”—that question may be the beginning of a future career.

HEALTH & WELLNESS: Preparing Students to Thrive

A new school year is also an opportunity to reset healthy habits.

Young people need to understand that wellness is part of academic success.
Healthy routines can include getting adequate rest, making nutritious choices, being physically active, taking care of personal hygiene, managing stress, and knowing when to ask for help.

The B.R.A.V.E. Project® Healthy Heroes Literacy Program continues to address health and wellness education, including important topics such as preventive health and bullying prevention.

Our CY2026 goal is to educate at least 1,020 youth and parents through health-literacy events and workshops.

September reminds us that preparation is not just about having school supplies.

Preparation also means preparing healthy minds, healthy bodies, healthy relationships, and healthy communities.

FINANCIAL LITERACY: Preparing Youth for Independence

September can also be a time to talk about money.

Back-to-school expenses provide a natural opportunity for young people to begin thinking about budgeting, saving, needs versus wants, responsible spending, and financial goals.

Financial literacy is not simply about knowing how much money you have.
It is about learning how to make informed decisions.

Through the BRAVE Bucks Literacy Program, The B.R.A.V.E. Project® is working to strengthen financial literacy among underserved youth.

Our CY2026 goal includes conducting eight financial-literacy workshops and educating at least 255 + students.

The lesson is simple:
Young people deserve the knowledge and confidence to make wise financial choices today—and build stronger financial futures tomorrow.

PREPARATION: Planting Seeds for the Future

September is a month of preparation.

Farmers prepare for the coming season. Families establish new routines. Teachers prepare classrooms. Students prepare for another year of learning.

At The B.R.A.V.E. Project®, preparation means planting seeds of opportunity.

We plant those seeds through:

Health.
Helping young people understand and care for their well-being.
Reading.
Opening doors through literacy and education.
STEM.
Building curiosity, creativity, problem-solving, and career awareness.
Financial Literacy.
Teaching young people the skills needed to make informed financial decisions.

These are not separate pieces.

Together, they form a foundation for confidence, resilience, educational success, and career readiness.

NEW BEGINNINGS: Start Where You Are

Every September brings another chance to begin again.

For a student who struggled last year, September can mean a fresh start.

For a young person who has never considered a STEM career, September can be the beginning of a new dream.

For a child who has never enjoyed reading, one book can change that.

For a student who has never learned how to budget or save, one financial-literacy lesson can plant an important seed.

And for a young person who feels unseen or unsupported, one caring adult can make all the difference.

The B.R.A.V.E. Project® believes every young person deserves that opportunity.

Our mission is to transform underserved and underprivileged communities by addressing health disparities, reducing dropout rates, and improving career readiness through health, reading/educational, and financial literacy.

BE BRAVE. BE READY. BE EMPOWERED.

As we move through September, let us remember what this month represents:

Transition — Embrace change.

Balance — Care for the whole child.

Preparation — Build the skills needed for tomorrow.

New Beginnings — Believe that every young person can start again, grow, and succeed.

The B.R.A.V.E. Project® remains committed to empowering youth with the knowledge, resources, relationships, and opportunities they need to learn, grow, lead, and thrive.

This September, let’s not simply prepare students for another school year.

Let’s prepare them for life.
Together, We Can Empower Change & Inspire Futures.
